Dream. Plan. Do. Live!

“𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴!” My Lyft driver said to me earlier this week as we bonded over the mantra (also my coaching practice name!) "𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧. 𝐃𝐨. 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞!"

In the short 25min ride, the friendly man shared his story of leaving his unstable home country of Venezuela 3 years ago, and moving to the US in search of a better life for his family. He gave up a well paying accounting job he loved, when he realized the company started asking him to make decisions that didn’t align with his moral values.

Despite not knowing the language and being unable to transfer his accounting skills directly to the new country, he remains optimistic, and real, about his future. He is proud to be a Lyft driver because it allows him to support his family while saving money and gaining the necessary certifications to return to the field he loves by the end of this year.

His story resonated deeply with me as I reflected on how it aligns with the “Dream. Plan. Do. Live!” framework I share with my clients.

🌟 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: He has identified and set a clear goal of rebuilding his career based on what’s important to him (providing for his family with a clear conscience), what he loves (numbers), and what he’s good at (accounting and sorting through numbers).

📝 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧: He identified the gaps in his plan (new language, new accounting requirements, financial needs), and built a strategy to fill those gaps.

✅ 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Based on his plan, he became a Lyft and Uber driver to provide financially for his family in the short term. He makes an effort to talk to all of his passengers to learn and practice his English. He is taking steps to complete the paperwork and certifications needed by the end of the year to qualify him to get back into the career space he loves.

✨ 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: He is not bitter about what happened in the past, and is not letting the uncertainty of the future take over. He proudly drives for Lyft and Uber to meet his family's financial needs in the short term, while making steady progress toward his long-term goals.

As we exchanged goodbyes, we wished each other good luck as we continue to pursue our shared mantra. I felt inspired by his resilience, and was reminded why I do what I do. His story highlighted the incredible potential within each of us when we dare to dream and act on our plans.
